Roadmap Gender equality

The European Commission's roadmap for equality between women and men adopted in 2006 is of the utmost importance as it represent a commitment to gender equality and defines six priorities areas, all related to core issues of BPW work:

- Equal economic independence for women and men,

- Reconciliation of private and professional life,

- Equal representation in decision-making,

- Eradication of all forms of gender-related violence,

- Elimination of gender stereotypes,

- Promotion of gender equality in external and development policies

In 2009 a mid-term report about implementation of the Roadmap was published.

At the same time, a general consultation for future steps regarding equality between women and me was done by the European Commission between August and October 2015.

After an internal consultation process, BPW Europe has sent a position paper in answer to this consultation.

 BPW Europe's
Position Paper

25 November 2009 - 10th International Day for the elimination of violence against women

In European, 12 to 15% of women face violence in their home and private relationships. BPW Europe support the engagement of the Council of Europe and of the European Union institutions to combat violence against women.

BPW Europe underlines that financial independance is necessary to give women opportunities to make choices and change their lives.

It is of the utmost importance that moral and sexual harassment in the workplace is also addressed when combatting violence against women in all its forms.
