Debating the future of Pension schemes in Europe - by 30 September 2010

BPW Europe wishes to participate in the updating of the Position Paper of the European Women’s Lobby by making the voice of its members heard.

European BPW members are women working in all professions in 30 European countries. They can contribute by giving their opinion, telling their story or that of fellow workers. They can bring to the debate their personal expertise. They have experience in balancing a busy professional life and an active family life. They are interested in making things change to build a better society for women of all walks of life.

Pensions are a concern for all working women. You do not need to be a specialist to participate in this debate.

Women in Science and technology

What the Council of the European Union says

The Council of the European Union reiterated support to women in European science and technology in the conclusions of the Competitiveness Council, 26 May 2010. While acknowledging the work undertaken by the European Commission and the need to initiate a cultural and structural change in universities and research organisations, the Council highlights in particular the inclusion of gender issues in research as a resource to create new knowledge and stimulate innovation. The emphasis is put on the objective of improving the effectiveness and impact of research, and barriers to gender equality as
regards learning, employment and career progress in particular in the field of science and technology.

The European Union finds more about women's in decision-making positions.

This database is updated regularly.

A quarterly update of the political domain of the European Commission's database on women and men in decision-making has just been completed.  Data were collected between 26th April and 19th May 2010 and cover the results of national and regional elections that have taken place since early March 2010 and any recent changes in the composition of governments.

This information is very useful for all awareness campaigns regarding the needs for more women in decision-making positions.
