Green
& Sustainable

On April 22, the world celebrates Earth Day. Observed annually since 1970, one month after the spring equinox, Earth Day marks the anniversary of modern environmental consciousness and dedicated care for the planet.

Together for a Green and Sustainable World

The Green and Sustainable Working Group was created in 2021 by BPW Estonia to strengthen sustainability awareness and action across BPW Europe.

We are living in a world of constant change, where technological development is accelerating and the flow of information is increasing. This requires us to rethink outdated habits and adopt more sustainable ways of thinking and acting. In this context, we must ask: how do we make responsible choices, care for ourselves and the environment, and support long-term change in society?

We believe that women play a key role in shaping a green and sustainable future. Sustainable leadership begins with awareness. If we want women to lead sustainably tomorrow, they must understand the challenges facing our planet today.

Our goal is to shape sustainability from a woman’s perspective.

The working group invites BPW members and clubs to actively participate in this movement, to raise awareness, share knowledge, and develop practical solutions for sustainable living and business. What started as a European initiative has now grown into an international collaboration.

The working group acts as a platform connecting BPW federations and clubs, supporting cooperation and exchange across countries. Activities include lectures, workshops, campaigns, and networking initiatives in the following areas:

• Sustainability in politics
• Sustainable economies and industries
• Sustainable awareness and lifestyle

Green and Sustainable Resolution for BPW Europe

A key part of our work is the Green and Sustainable Resolution for BPW Europe, which provides practical guidance on how BPW organisations can operate more sustainably.

The resolution includes:

• Sustainable mindset across federations and members
• Guidelines for organising sustainable events
• Green office practices
• Responsible travel recommendations

It also proposes that each BPW club:

• Appoints a yearly Green Ambassador in the local board
• Participates in monthly working group meetings
• Organises at least one sustainability-focused event annually (e.g. Earth Day)
• Communicates sustainability actions within their network

Join to Become a BPW Green Ambassador

Green Ambassadors are members of the working group who act as a bridge between the local organisation and the wider network. They help share information, motivate participation, support local initiatives, and follow the implementation of sustainability guidelines.

Each year on April 22, BPW members around the world celebrate Earth Day through shared pledges, campaigns, and events. Women from multiple countries contribute their commitments and actions, demonstrating global engagement and shared responsibility.

This collaboration strengthens international connections and highlights the role of women in sustainability leadership.
